LEARNING ACHIEVEMENTS

Pre production

Being the first game project I’ve worked on that that’s longer than 7 weeks, it was the first time where we as a team had the time to dive fully in pre-production, which greatly helped with both learning to quickly prototype and making sure that I research relevant topics.

team size

With 34 people at its biggest, this team was the largest i’ve worked in so far. With this many people it was sometimes hard to clearly communicate what was being worked on, or when big changes were passed. Luckily our producer was on top of it most of the time. On the Tech side another problem was the big difference in discipline sizes, with both Art and Design having 14 members, and Tech Only 8. this often laid a big burden on the technical aspects.

technical lead

With my previous knowledge of being an Producer and especially the knowledge that i wasn’t the best at it, I wanted to try a production role once more and stepped in halfway through the project as Technical lead. From managing a growing code base to the immense amount bugs that pile up in an open world game, it was a tough job. Trying to balancing the needs of the programmers against the project, designers and artist; and trying to keep performance at a reasonable level so that our game wasn’t only playable on high end hardware: It was difficult, it was fun, and I’ve learned a lot from going through these obstacles and more.
