LEARNING ACHIEVEMENTS
Being a Producer
So far I’ve always taken a Programming role inside of a project, but I wanted to mix things up and experience what a production role entails. Over the course of this block I learned the difficulties of being a producer, and the problems each discipline of game development experiences. From helping design with mechanical choices and designing for VR, to helping and giving feedback to the vehicles created by the artists. Seeing the obstacles each discipline faces gave me a lot of perspective on how I can improve my workflow to help increase productivity for everyone in the future.
Risks everywhere
With both me as a first time producer, my scrum master also doing it for the first time, add on top of that a VR project that is being developed in a Custom engine of just over half a year old; there were a lot of risks everywhere. Luckily through merging part of the Engine team with the game team, and with a lot of the support from the whole team, I was able to lead the team to successfully create a demo for the game in 7 weeks.
Custom Engine
This project was the final Goal of the custom Engine we created in the past half year. Seeing how the tools we designed and created for the team, were almost completely useless since we didn’t test them with any designers. Luckily by having the most of the Engine team integrate with the game team, it allowed us to quickly communicate what was needed.
